The Expo on Saturday offered information on many aspects of wellness from long term care insurance to aromatherapy!
We offered mini chair massage, Polarity & Reiki sessions and fielded questions from baby massage to health insurance payment for massage (which is offered by some health insurance companies).
To illustrate the need advocate for insurance coverage for massage, Polarity & Reiki sessions, I will share a story with you.
One of the people who stopped by our booth was coping with the aftermath of a serious car accident. After having completed all the physical therapy prescribed by the physician, the pain was still a serious barrier to returning to good health and a productive life. This person was suffering with memory loss due to sleep deprivation. The pain prevented a good night's sleep. With a desire to restrict medications due to the negative side effects, massage had been sought and found to be successful. The relief lasted several days. The unfortunate part of this story is that massage is not covered by the health insurance company involved so it was financially difficult for this person to have massage sessions with any frequency. As the person pointed out the expense to give diabetes patients the care they need is enormous compared to the cost of massage.
I was able to give this person a Reiki session which brought tears of relief and a reduction in the discomfort felt. I am grateful to have been able to bring a bit of joy and share the wonderful effects of Reiki with this lovely person.
There is a clinic in our area that offers Reiki once a month for a contribution. Request information at reiki@bodyworkandmassage.org
