Networking on the fly . . .

Networking on the fly . . .

Being successful in business takes marketing skills. Whenever we are in contact with others we have an opportunity to market our business. As massage therapists and bodyworkers we must be aware of when to listen and when to talk. The same applies to handing out our cards and brochures. Be sensitive to the needs of those around you. Do not press your business card on anyone who is not ready. But . . . just in case it is appropriate . . always have your business cards with you. Those cards do not work for you while they are in your possession.

First impressions . . .

Recently I was at a restaurant and over heard a woman telling the group at her table about her massage & Reiki business. She mentioned the name of the business and some of the services she offers. I was considering introducing myself, if the opportunity presented its self. As I sat there I was too aware of her conversation, voice too loud, tone too harsh. I glanced in her direction as I left my table. Her attire was a bit disheveled, her expression tense. That reminded me how important our public appearance is to our success. You never know who might inadvertently overhear your conversation and how that could affect a potential client's impression of you.

Weather in the market, at a public gathering or driving in a traffic jam, we must remember we are our own best advertisement. Take advantage of this easy, free marketing tool. Be considerate. Be patient. Be aware of those around you.

As the saying goes, "You only have one chance to make a first impression." , make it a wonderful one! Smile. Listen. Breathe.

Loved this entry. We are always on when in public, good, bad or indifferent to that notion and especially at a networking event. That is all about smiling and being personable.
